Emma and her husband, Liam, recently took their two little ones, Finn (5 years) and Violet (2 years) on a British seaside holiday to Camber Sands in East Sussex. Only a two-hour drive from their North London home, Emma told us they were looking forward to escaping the city and having some space for the kids to run around. The house they stayed in was right on the beach and had great facilities for families – such as a pizza oven in the garden.
As the British weather can be unpredictable (to say the least!), we asked Emma what she was planning to take in her suitcase, and got her packing tips for weekends away with kids this summer. Find out more below…
MALIBU organic cotton cardigan | SANDY rainbow socks | HULA denim terry skirt with badges
How to pack light (even if there are no luggage restrictions):
I tend to make a list and little packing piles for both the kids in the run up to going away. I try to plan their outfits and pack their clothes in different sections of the case so they can be easily transferred when we get there. If I know there is a washing machine I won't take too much but I have to say we do always end up taking more than we need! There are always the extra things like baby monitors and nappies that take up room so we tend to take a big bag with different compartments in.
Emma’s packing tips:
Finn wears: MALIBU organic cotton cardigan | HARPER trousers, SPECKY socks | Violet wears: PAXTON organic cotton t-shirt, HULA skirt, SANDY rainbow socks
Planning a capsule holiday wardrobe:
It’s nice to take things that mix and match, easy everyday basics and then a few more fun special pieces. We are taking the HULA denim skirt with the braces and patches for Violet as it can be worn with leggings or tights for travel / cooler weather and with sandals and a tee for warmer days. For Finn the HARPER stretch denim joggers are great for his age and super comfortable. Also the MALIBU rainbow knit cardigan, which can double up as a little jacket. I like to plan fun, colourful outfits that stand out and look good in holiday pictures - plus the kids love rainbow colours so they always want to wear them which helps!

Travel essentials:
Travel essentials are definitely spare clothes for the journey - for the kids and I. We have been caught out with travel sickness on a few occasions so having some spare bits to hand and wipes / plastic bags to put dirty clothes in is a must have. Muslins are also great as they are used to snuggle into for naps in the car, as comforters, beach blanket, scarf or sun cover up - so versatile!
