Nestled on the pretty high street of St John’s Wood amongst lots of other great independent shops is one of our favourite stockists: Igloo Kids. The retailer also has a online store with worldwide delivery, but we love to visit the shop and see our designs displayed in the the window.
Go inside and you’ll find lots of other great design-led brands for little ones, carefully curated from all over the globe. They stock everything from beautiful clothing and accessories, to toys, gifts and party supplies.
We caught up with Igloo’s owner and mum-of-two, Nino, to find out more...
What kind of products do you curate in your shop?
We look for a mix of interesting, innovative products and time-honoured favourites from around the world. For instance, our shoe collection features school shoes, special occasion shoes, trainers, sandals, winter boots and more. There is a shoe for any activity or need! Additionally, we love to piece together our clothing collection from loyal favourites to new up-and-upcoming labels. We also have a real soft spot for French toys, of which we offer many.
What do you love most about running an independent kids boutique?
I really enjoy discovering new brands and new collections. I put the orders together like a puzzle, imagining them in my shop. I also love meeting new people – parents rolling their prams into the shop with adorable little children who light up at the sight of Igloo Kids!
What are your favourite things to do?
Going to museums and theatres is one of my favourite pastimes. Top of the list is the Victoria & Albert Museum. I always enjoy their special exhibits. I also love the Barbican Theatre and recently saw The Good Person of Szechwan by Russian Pushkin Drama Theatre. It was a beautiful production with amazing actors, a great setting, and very modern and deep.
What is your favourite Bonnie mob item this season?
The Callow dress. It is so unique and happy. It makes me smile!
Describe your perfect day...
When the shop is full of children running around, playing and laughing happily. Some children are here for their haircuts, some to get new shoes, some just want to spend their pocket money! I love to see our staff wrapping gifts and blowing up balloons. A perfect day for me is a busy, buzzing, happy atmosphere in Igloo Kids.
Tell us about your St John’s Wood shop...
Our boutique sits along the lovely, family-friendly St John’s Wood High Street. We love dressing up our store window for the different seasons and holidays and we are always adding new stock to the shop. Less than a minute away from our shop is a delightful little park at the bottom of St John’s Wood High Street with a playground for children and open spaces for picnics. Five minutes further and you’re in Regent’s Park, home to London Zoo. We also have delicious cafes and bakeries just next door, including local favourite Panzers, GAIL’s Bakery and The Ivy St John’s Wood. It’s a very family-friendly area and we feel fortunate to be part of the community here.
