Where to sleep under the stars as a family

by The Bonniemob on September 01, 2016

We just can't get enough for the Night Sky this season! Our Journey North keeps on giving us inspiration and today we wanted to explore the most beautiful places to sleep under the stars. Of course, as we are Bonnie Mob adventurers, we would always suggest a pop-up tent, your garden and a little bonfire, however, we are also dreamers...

...so we have rounded up a bite sized fabulous selection of supersonic places around the world to sleep right under the stars. With or without the kids, most of us will probably never feel as close to the sky.

>> Elqui Domos, Chile

http://www.elquidomos.cl/en/en

In the Elqui Valley, Chile, this hotel has geodesic metal structures covered with a PVC tent, raised beds and an open roof to have maximum exposure to the elements. Aside from being absolutely gorgeous to look at, the structures are fully designed so you can get the most star gazing possible along with all your mod cons. Each cabin fits 4 so perfect for a little family adventure! This year they have gone the extra mile and actually installed their own super strong telescopes on the hotel grounds so they have their own observatory as well. Star gazing luxury at it's best.

>> Kakslauttanen Glass Igloos, Finland

Scandanavian star spotting in Finland looks like a pretty good bet. These heart warmingly cosy igloos look like the perfect way to star gaze but keeping the little ones snug and warm. From the 20th August until the end of April, this winter resort opens for aurora searching, each pod can fit up to 4 people and to boot, have hot showers inside them! Promising to be an unforgetable experience, the temperatures outside dip to -40 degrees (eek!) but you'll be snug inside the glass with a (relatively) warm -6 degrees. Maybe not one for until the kids are older then...

Canyon Point - Amangiri Resort, Utah, USA

This SUPER luxurious resort allows the day beds to be transformed into outdoor night beds...so there is nothing separating you from the open night sky. Especially good if you are visiting in the heat of the summer, you can sleep outside in the desert where virtually no light pollution will let you see the stars in all it's glory. Again, so luxurious, better not waste this one on the kids either!

And as most families with small children will not wish to travel to far from home, here are some ideas for glamping and camping with kids here in the UK.

>> Sky Den, Northumberland

George Clarkes Sky Den, glamping for kids

Designed by the talented architect, George Clarke from the Amazing Spaces TV show, it's a very inspiring creation indeed. The roof literally opens out and you and your family will be under the stars! It's in an area that is part of the Calvert Trust which is a charity that helps disabled children achieve their potential through the pursuit of outdoor adventures. So it's unique in design and purpose, ticks all the boxes for a great family camp adventure and children will love star gazing from their beds here.

>> Blackberry Wood, East Sussex

Blackberry Wood, Kids Friendly camping in East Sussex

This super cool campsite is very close to our Bonnie Mob HQ in Brighton. So far being the most creative sleeping options that we have come across so close to home and that is also affordable for families, you can choose to sleep in a Curvy Cabin, Helicopter (yes, an actual 1965 Wessex search and rescue Helicopter), a double decker bus and gypsy wagons just to name a few. This could be a dream site for the kids and very family friendly.

>> Wanderoo Horse box - Powys

Wanderoo Family Glamping Wales UK

It's in the heart of the Brecon Beacons, a sea of green surrounds you while you are tucked up all warm and cosy in this luxury designed horse box. When it's time to star gaze, you and the kids can pop yourselves on the terrace, sip your hot chocolates and test your knowledge of the constellations.

So there are some ideas to get your families star gazing and sleeping under the stars adventures started. We Bonnie Mobsters encourage as much outdoor time as possible! Fresh air is brilliant for the kids and keeps the oldies young at heart too.
